What you will do:

Team Management: Oversee a small finance team to ensure timely processing and records management goals are achieved, maintain regular workflow schedules for all related staff, and maintain status on shared task responsibilities.

Communication: Coordinate with operations management to obtain all necessary records. Troubleshoot accuracy shortfalls and/or incomplete records submissions.

Reporting: Reports directly to executive management, communicating status on recurring monthly responsibilities, and strategizing process improvement opportunities. Respond to inquiries from external accounting professionals as necessary.

Full-cycle bookkeeping: This includes all aspects of the accounting process, from recording transactions, creating journal entries, reconciling accounts and corresponding with external accountants.

Accounts Payable (AP): Processing invoices, vendor payments, and managing AP records.

Reconciliations: Matching bank statements with accounting records. Record and allocate credit card expenses. Maintain accurate intercompany records.

Month-end and year-end processes: Account reconciliation and balancing, adjusting entries, closing the books and corresponding with external accountants.

Payroll: Oversee payroll system, assist retail store management in payroll accuracy, correspond with third party payroll processing company, manage deductions and reporting to relevant agencies.


Tax Preparation: verification of records, making entries, filing and payment of company tax in accordance with federal and provincial regulations.


Location and hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday in our Cumberland, BC office. Located minutes from the highway, this location is ideal for those living in Cumberland, the Comox Valley or Campbell River.

Who you are:


Experience: 3+ years of full-cycle bookkeeping experience is required. Formal accounting education preferred.

Software Proficiency: Proficiency in accounting software, QuickBooks or equivalent. Utilize various computer programs and applications skillfully.

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues.

Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, clients, and other stakeholders.

Attention to Detail: Ability to thoroughly and precisely focus on all aspects of a task, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality.

Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain accurate records.

Education: A high school diploma is required, supplemented by a college diploma in accounting/bookkeeping or completion of a recognized bookkeeping certification program.

Independent: work autonomously, manage tasks, and achieve outcomes with minimal supervision or guidance.

Certifications (Asset): Certification from the Institute of Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (IPBC) — now known as Certified Professional Bookkeepers of Canada (CPB)

Efficiency: Results-driven with a sense of urgency; you get things done with a “can-do” attitude and a strong work ethic.

Other Duties

Stay current on technology trends and make recommendations to improve process flows and efficiency.

Take ownership of and have pride in the accuracy and up-to-date status of company records; identify and troubleshoot inaccuracies and work with management to implement corrective changes.
